How do playing styles differ between ATP and WTA?

The biggest difference is around The Complete Package: on ATP, defensive archetypes like The Spoiler, Grinder, and Pusher can keep those matchups close or even positive.

In the WTA, Complete Package players like Madison Keys, Elina Svitolina, and Belinda Bencic separate much more clearly, winning those same style matchups at a far higher rate.

How archetypes add context

Each player is assigned an archetype from serve and return statistics - ace rate, service points won, return points won, and break point conversion. ATP and WTA percentiles are computed independently, so a WTA Servebot is defined against the WTA distribution, not the ATP one.

When two players are matched up, the historical win rate between their archetypes can be used as a context layer on top of the predictions. ATP uses the matrix across qualifying picks; WTA applies its tour-specific matrix to 6/6-consensus picks.

The separate WTA matrix is useful precisely because the tour behaves differently: some style pairings that are neutral on ATP become meaningful in WTA, and some ATP edges flatten out.
