Tour Levels

Professional tennis is organized into tiers, and the tier a match is played at changes both the quality of the field and how much reliable data exists on each player.

The ladder

  • ATP Tour / WTA Tour are the top men's and women's circuits (250, 500, 1000, and the four Grand Slams). The strongest fields and the deepest data.
  • ATP Challenger Tour is the men's second tier, where rising players and fringe tour regulars compete for ranking points and main-tour entry.
  • ITF World Tennis Tour is the entry level for both men and women (often labelled M15/M25 for men, W15/W35 for women, by prize money). This is where most pros begin.

How Smashrs covers them

The model produces predictions for ATP, WTA, and ITF matches. Lower tiers are harder: data is thinner and results noisier, so the bar for acting on a pick is higher there. See how the consensus gate tightens to full agreement on WTA and ITF. Each player's Elo rating is built from results at the level they actually play.
